Hokum Rock. According to local legend, at one time a local Indian used this tremendous pile of granite rock left by retreating glaciers as his cave-like home. There is a more modern theory for the origin of the name of the rock pile. It is said that, in the 19th century, an aged descendant of the Nobscussets lived in the cave beneath the rocks. Whenever someone approached the cave, the Indian would say “Who Come,” thus giving the rock its name. In fact, the name of the rock is written “Who-Come” in several old deeds. Perhaps the ancient Indian of the 1880s was really the ghost of that old reprobate Hoken, an Indian who was a thief and known as incorrigible. A commemorative plaque is located at Hokum Rock in honor of the legend.

Hokum rock. Oh ok not Holcomb Rock. Interesting this is in Dennis, it may be a good sight to check out. Do you know the area of Dennis where it is located? If so can you put up a google map link to the general area?

Thanks for this info, I have the topicgraphical maps of the place and the history behind the story of the rock. Seems like a good place to go take a look at. I am wondering if any one around the town of Dennis which have encountered this Indian or anything strange happening up and around the area that may constitute paranormal activity. Any Ufo sightings, strange creatures seen, or time loss that sort of thing, or poltergiest activity or spirit manifestations in there houses or in the woods themselves will come forward and be interviewed.

How will they if they don't know your wanting them too? I'm not sure they are on this message board... What would you do if you were to investigate? Knock on doors?

No no knocking on doors. I have put a message up in UFO's and Space which is of a survey. If you know anyone off the message board in the general area of the Rock, print the message and give it to them. My problem is everyone calls Ghost and Hauntings for investigations and nothing gets handed down to me. Although some hauntings may involve senerio's of the same type of activity as a UFO sighting or contact with out a sighting. Nothing ever comes my way. It is what it is!

I see. Well I drove down there to see if I could give you better direction, but really you can’t miss it. The rock is .9 miles on the left after you turn on to Hokum Rock Rd from Rt 134. It used to be more secluded, with trees blocking it from the road. Found out today they recently cut down the trees to lay gravel for more parking. (or ufo clearance??) Hope they didn’t upset old Hokum!

I only posted one site I found online and This originaly stemed from a co-worker telling me about suposed tunnels under. Would you post the link you found so I could read more? I'm thinking about evping a little bit one of these upcoming nights.. see If I can't squirt out a "who come".. Hehe. Ok have fun tuesday, hope you like it. There are houses very close on each side. There is also a path leading into the woods behind the rock you may want to walk down, I never have. Don't know where it leads.

I got the same history that you put on the site. Thats about all the history there is to the place. I went through like 5 different pages of web links and all say the same thing about it. I myself am very interested if there is a tunnel system under the rock.
